Kathryn is Certified to teach the following classes:
- Bikram Yoga
- Inferno Hot Pilates
How long have you been practicing Bikram Yoga?
I literally “fell into” the Grapevine studio 11 years ago when I had a knee injury from running. It was incredibly ironic because at the time it seemed like the only thing I COULD do physically but it soon became the only thing I WANTED to do!
Why did you decide to become a Certified Hot Pilates Instructor?
Inferno Hot Pilates appeals to me in a way that no other fitness class has (and I’ve taken thousands of them over the years). It is the perfect combination of physical and mental strength and focuses on the core, which I believe is the most important (but neglected) body area as we grow older. I am challenged every time I take it or teach it and I LOVE challenges!
Why do you think it’s important to practice Inferno Hot Pilates along with Bikram Yoga?
Besides Bikram Yoga, I also weight train competitively and run so adding in Inferno Hot Pilates was the last “ingredient” in my cross training regime. The cardio endurance factor of IHP has improved both my ability to stay in poses in Bikram Yoga as well as run the hills of my neighborhood. My core is approaching super human (ha ha) thanks to IHP and I can feel that difference every time I grab my foot for Bow or kick out for Standing Head to Knee.
What is your favorite thing about teaching?
I taught high school English for 10 years and even though that was fun, it doesn’t come close to leading a group of adults into doing things they may have never thought they could do! I love the act of encouraging others and then watching their faces when the “impossible” is achieved. That happens every time I teach an IHP class and it is incredibly powerful to watch!
What is your favorite quote?
